We do not collect, share, or sell any personal information. All data Chronus accesses is used exclusively to display content in your configured widgets on your own device.
Android permissions
Permissions we use
- ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION, ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION, ACCESS_BACKGROUND_LOCATION
- Used to determine your device's location (latitude/longitude) when automatic geolocation is enabled for weather updates. Not used for any other purpose. If weather is not configured, this data is never accessed.
- ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE
- Detects when network connectivity changes so background queries (weather, news) are paused when offline (e.g. Airplane mode) and resumed when the network returns. This saves battery.
- DISABLE_KEYGUARD
- Allows tapping links in News and Forecast panels on the lock screen. Chronus uses this to trigger Android's standard secure unlock prompt before launching the browser. Your device security is not compromised.
- INTERNET
- Required to retrieve weather, news, tasks, and stock data over the network.
- READ_CALENDAR
- Accesses your device's calendar to retrieve upcoming events for display in Calendar widgets.
- RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED
- Starts Chronus's background update services (weather, news, tasks, stocks, calendar) when the device boots.
- WAKE_LOCK
- Briefly wakes the device to perform background data updates. The lock is released immediately after each update completes.
- READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE, WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE
- Used by the Backup & Restore feature on Android 9 and below to read and write configuration backup files. On Android 10 and above, Chronus uses the Storage Access Framework and does not require these permissions.
- BILLING
- Required for the optional one-time Pro in-app purchase via Google Play.
Usage statistics
Analytics
Chronus uses Firebase Analytics to collect anonymous, non-personal usage statistics (such as which widgets are used and app crash reports). No personally identifiable information is included. This data is used solely to improve the app and is never shared with third parties.
Third-party services
OAuth scopes we may use
- Google Tasks — .../auth/tasks
- The optional Tasks widget displays, creates, and edits your Google Tasks and task lists. Tasks can also appear inside Calendar widgets. All task data is stored on your device only and is never shared or used for any purpose beyond display and management within Chronus.
- Google Drive — .../auth/drive.file
- The Backup & Restore feature can save and restore your widget configuration to Google Drive. Only files created by Chronus are accessed — no other Drive content is read or modified.
- Reddit (Pro) — read scope via OAuth 2
- The optional Reddit news provider displays posts from subreddits you configure. Chronus requests read-only access. No posts, votes, or comments are made on your behalf.
- Feedly (Pro) — read scope via OAuth 2
- The optional Feedly news provider displays articles from your Feedly subscriptions. Read-only access only.
- Todoist (Pro) — data:read_write scope
- The optional Todoist task provider displays your tasks and allows marking them complete from within the widget. No tasks are created or deleted without your explicit action.
- Evernote (Pro) — basic access
- The optional Evernote task provider displays notes you designate as tasks. Read-only display within the widget.
